My "conversion" to atheism

Uploaded by: askegg
Video Description:
This is is short overview of my life as a Christian and why I became an atheist. This is mainly for those religious people who may state that I do not know what I am talking about, or that I have not studied Christianity in any real depth.
Yes - I know I was not "born a Christian" and highlight this fact later in the video. For brevity I made that statement instead of "I was born an atheist in a Christian family and raised with the values, rituals, and conventions inherit in such situations". The popular understanding of the phrase has the meaning I was looking for without having to go into a massive explanation as to why everyone is born an atheist. Besides, if I had gone down that route I would now be defending a "I was born an atheist" comment to all the idiot theists who visit. Furthermore, if anyone make a comment about this again I will give you the thumbs down - if you can't be bothered reading the descriptions of videos, it's your own fault.
There is a slight problem with the Youtube version - it cuts off one of two closing slides and the credit for the music, which called "High Drama" from the album "Pictures" by Timo Maas.

Why are you ... ( 5 days ago by Jeremyguru)
Why are you claiming that god (whatever that is) is "perfect." You haven't provided evidence that your god is real.
However, the fictional god described in the bible is far from perfect. Any person of average intelligence and moral appitude can see that.
Assuming your god ... ( 5 days ago by askegg)
Assuming your god even exists, then your argument undermines every attempt you make to understand his decisions and his desires. It sinks us both you fool.

"Albert Einstein as well as a majority of scientists believe we live in a finite universe..."
Argument from authority. False dichotomy. Retroactive confirmation bias. Nice going.
BTW - by definition, no one knows what is beyond the visible universe.

yes, i didn't use any argument from authority...if you remember..you asked me a question about that topic, YOU wanted an answer on that topic, and you got it.
Now, if you are done following away from the point, i would like to ask you why didn't you refute my previous comments on the theory of the universe being finite. do you disagree? why? if its a possibility..wouldn't it be a big way of persuading you of something eternal, immaterial, and omnipresent creating our finite, material universe?

no, not really, whether god exists or not, i'm saying if he does, than you you cannot judge a perfect entity for you aren't perfect.

Ahem: "Albert Einstein as well as a majority of scientists believe we live in a finite universe"
"why didn't you refute my previous comments on the theory of the universe being finite. do you disagree?"
I am agnostic on the topic.

"wouldn't it be a big way of persuading you of something eternal, immaterial, and omnipresent creating our finite, material universe?"
Sure it's possible. Got any evidence it is actually true? Can you determine there isn't an uber-god who created the god who created this universe? What makes god immune from creation, and why? What if the universe is really infinite - then where is your god?
Are you perfect? No ... ( 5 days ago by askegg)
Are you perfect? No
Is god perfect? Not according to the Bible
Does god exist anyway? There is no evidence for one.
"so tell me how imperfect you can judge(evaluate or understand) Gods decisions when in fact, he is perfect?"
So no matter what anyone does, we will never understand god decisions, or understand him. So why bother trying?
"its extremely simple logic."
..and extremely flawed.

poster, i spoke to a person like you. he went on scoffing about god. he was an alcoholic. i was informed two months later that he was found dead on the floor of his motel room, naked, and surrounded by pills all over the floor. He spoke smart aleck to me, now he is not smart aleck.

Is that a threat? Or are you making threats on your god's behalf? Either way - you're an idiot.

this video is really twisting the truth and twisting the Bible. Anybody can make proof texts say anything they want. I can twist Lincoln's writings and make it look like he loved the institution of slavery lol lol. Sorry, poster, like all the others, you are arguing with lies.

Really? Whose to say these passages aren't the ones really important to god and the ones you follow are wrong?
Yes, the Bible can be twisted to say anything you want, which makes it a worthless book.

globetrekker you argue like a CHRISTIAN.
you can't prove ANYTHING in the bible.
not to mention it has been transcribed hundreds of times.
you CAN prove EVERYTHING in this video one way or another.
I just hope you don't waste your life on religion and die and then...waiting for you will be....ETERNAL NOTHINGNESS.
ASKEGG...you've got another sympathizer.
just be glad that you are more open minded than theists.

Evolutionists are like politician John Edwards, hypocrites. John was getting some on the side, being so pious and condescending, a hero to continue his bid for President with a wife facing chemotherapy. What a kroc. All liberals are hypocrites like John Edwards and Obama. Stupidity

i dissagree that christians argue the same way. There are stupid people of all beliefs. I definatly think that i could be an atheist being the intelligent person that i am. I would still have my morals. But why not have my morals and still believe in God? Just because there is no proof doesn't mean nothing is going to happen when you die. And you can't tell me nothing will happen because there is no proof of that either.
I do disagree with ... ( 17 hours ago by MrMatthewsToYou)
I do disagree with a lot of the things that churchs do and i think it is rediculous. However, I feel as though Pascal's wager sums it up pretty well. Being an atheist is the worst bet: if you are right, you gain nothing, but if you are wrong you lose everything. again, I could see myself on either side of this playing field but id rather have a chance than to believe in nothing. Regardless of how "beautiful" a scientific theory sounds.
Well that's fine, ... ( 17 hours ago by askegg)
Well that's fine, but which god will you believe in? There are far more than a few to choose from and many take a very dim view of worshipping false idols. Besides, believing is not something I can just choose to do and it is not free. I could spend an entire lifetime worshipping a god that doesn't exist, or worse yet the wrong god and end up in hell anyway.

well I am a christian, and i think that I'd rather believe in something that has a chance if there is in fact a chance at all between heaven and hell.

Because the conservatives sure have shown themselves to be the beacon of honesty and purity. From Mr. "Wide Stance", to Mr. "Well the boys I was texting sexual messages too were 17 and therefore of legal age in this state", or maybe Mr. "I am a convicted felon for abuse of power but the ignorant ideologues in my state *almost* elected me again anyway".
But this is just "poisoning the well", and your political views have no effect on the fact of evolution.
Scientific proof ... ( 2 hours ago by pirbird14)
Scientific proof provides a picture of the reality of an idea. Each little piece of proof is an item of description: the more items, the more complete is the picture. "God" is a word with no content apart from emotion of the individual believer. I believe that fear of god can make people behave in ethical ways, but I can't believe that their god exists because they can't describe him in ways that make sense.
