I think Lang Lang impressed Barenboim and was trying tooo hard to find flaws in his playing. You can tell how he's scrutinizing his hands and the song. He probably was in denial and just had to say something LOL ...

he's a master pianist and he feels compelled to say something. Hahaha not one pianist in that master class was perfect in his opinion and there were small boo boos. Those were many of the top talented classical pianists in the world and yet Barenboim criticizes them negatively in some areas LOL

I think a lot of you are forgetting that musicians love criticism from mentors. My teacher really helped me with some of my own faults. And I think that Barenboim is making valid points. Lang Lang is fantastic. But everyone has room for improvement.
I'd doubt that Barenboim isn't always striving to keep himself on top of the material and also improve his technique as well.

I find it crazy why people like to criticize Lang Lang so much. He is well known for a reason. I know he can look weird when he plays, but that's just the way he looks when he plays and who cares if it looks weird? He doesn't feel like he is bigger than the sonata, he is just confident enough that he will master it. And in fact, he does. The colours in the sound he makes is INCREDIBLE. I have only seen rare cases people at his age can have such a dynamic range of colour palette in his music.
