| the thing that makes the pistons move is the petrol bein ignited when the cylinder is air-tight which litraly throws the piston down, this is a petrol engine diesels look similar inside but they work differently. hard to explain! oil is only used around moving metal parts to stop them from seizing. |

| SPJota: to answer your question, 1 cars use either petrol or diesel, and they can't be interchanged. 2 oil is used only for lubrication and cooling 3 its all about the pressure man, a diesel engine has piston pressures up to 20:1 1 being atmosphereic pressure, petrol is about 5:1 or 7:1, initially a spark is needed to start a diesel engine but after that, the pressure within the cylender heats the air until it ignites, to compare, the petrol engine needs full use of the spark plug to ignite. |
