And why is it bad that it's two 8800GTS strapped together? It's an awesome product. Why not be able to use 4 of the in Quad SLI, something only the GX2 can do.
Western Digital Raptors or SSDs in Raid 0 could easily solve that problem :D
GeForce 9 series could be thought of as a prototype for experimentation of new technologies for the next new video card, if there are any.
GeForce 9 series is probably there to get 65nm yields under control.

Will this motherboard be compatible with Intel's next generation chips? Probably not.
Games, generally, are not great users of multi-threading architecture so even under high demand only two of the eight cores are going to be used at a time.
