That is most definitely NOT a rotary engine. That is a RADIAL engine. Get your facts straight.

I ROFL @ YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORKINGZ OF THE INTERNAL COMBUSTIONZ ENGINZ! A Rotary Engine Uses ROTORS NUBCAKE HAHAHA It Doesnt Even Remotely look the same.....Not even close.

rotary engine don't have pistons at all and so many other things are different in whole process! Educate your self before posting so stupid posts!

sorry, my post was supposed to have a link attached, which was of a rotary engine, which was what i was reffering to in my post.
The rotary engines ... ( 1 month ago by gschjetne)
The rotary engines in Mazdas are best referred to as Wankel engines, so they aren't confused with the Gnome rotary engine, which looks a lot like a radial engine.

Why would you have a link to a real rotary engine, while saying "That isnt a rotary engine, its a radial engine"
What you initially said made sense; cause it isnt a rotary.

Yes indeed...It is a Radial engine...it is really hard to mistake a radial for a rotary engine... A wankel Rotary engine has one or more triangular shaped rotors that spin on a central axis point.. The rotors ride on a geared bevel and as it spins it goes through all 4 cycles when spinning.. ie intake Compression, combustion and Exhaust. All performed within chambers created by the rotor spinning in its chamber.. A radial is actually a piston engine whereas the Wankel Rotary is not.

that's how the crank rotates dunce. i know it's probably not the case in your douche powered cordia, but that's how it is in normal piston engines.

I always wondered how they worked, now I know.Amazingly simple, I thought they'd be a lot more complex.
Wankel engine = ... ( 1 month ago by bdinoc)
Wankel engine = trapezoidal "rotor" and crankshaft whirling inside a stationary crankcase & combustion chamber. Uses seals on the rotor lip, Mazda cars powered by this kind of engine. Rotary engine = stationary crankshaft with whirling engine block/cylinders/heads, used primarily in WWI aircraft, not a modern design and very inefficient. No throttle control possible so running speed controlled by on/off ignition switch. Radial engine = stationary engine block/cylinders, moving crank/pistons. OK?

I still don't understand a "rotary" engine though!

still can't grasp how it is lubricated, why wouldn't the oil just fall to the bottom pistions once used coz there is no sump for it to fall in.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess the oil is in the fuel, just like a regular 2-cycle engine.
This would also explain why, in a lot of these videos, there's tons of smoke until the engine warms up.
but then this a 4 ... ( 6 days ago by caprimentle)
but then this a 4 stroke engine so i wouldn't know if the same princeable applies, then theres the problem of the crankshaft because even 2stroke engines have a sump for the crank.
good question. ... ( 6 days ago by SultanMehmed)
good question. Porsche's flat 6 and Subby's flat 4 work on similar principles... Theoretically the oil would just pour into and stay in the cylinders... hmm.
