Mass Demonstration in London by Horn of Africa Communities

Thousands of Somalis, Eritreans, people from Ogaden and Oromo together with the remaining oppressed Ethiopian People, held mass demonstration against Ethiopia's illegal invasion and occupation of Somalia and Eritrean territory, acts of genocide, killing of civilians, destruction of livelihoods, war crimes, rape and sexual assaults, arrests and detentions, and forced expulsion that are being committed by the Ethiopian regime. The demonstration started at just after 12.00 pm and continued until 5.30 pm at Downing Street on the 16th of January.
The demonstration was huge, loud and lively. Some of the hundreds of Placards and banners read "End the genocide and occupation in Somalia", " Ethiopia: get out of Eritrea's territory", "Horn of Africa United against the Barbaric Regime in Ethiopia", "Why one rule for Darfur and another for Ogaden?", "Stop the genocide in Ethiopia" and "U.S.A and UK must stop sponsoring the Ethiopian regime."
The scene of the demonstration was very colorful with hundreds of flags of Somalia, Eritrea, Ogaden, and Oromo and people chanting and waving flags. Speaking to Meadna News, an Eritrean demonstrator, Dawit Bekit, said "I have been to many peace demonstrations and this one is simply unique. We are here to make our voice heard, but even if they do not listen to our voice, we are leaving with the biggest victory, which is our unity. It is simply wonderful to see Eritrean and Somalian mothers standing side by side for one cause."
Representatives of Somalia, Eritrea, Ogaden and Oromo handed letter for the Prime Minster and held talk with the Government Officials. Brining the destructive role of the Ethiopian regime in the Horn of Africa to the attention of the UK government and urged the government stating "We, the people of the Horn of Africa, call on you today to kindly request for you to stop propping up the brutal regime in Ethiopia. We ask you to put conditions on the aid that is being given to deny the Ethiopia government using British taxpayers' money to wreak havoc in the region. We request that you use your influence to exert the necessary pressure for the Ethiopian government to have respect for the rule of law and the rights of the people of the Horn of Africa to live in peace."
The demonstration was organised by the youth of the Horn of Africa for peace and stability of the region. The demonstration ended with speeches of representatives. Speaking to the crowd, Eritrean Youth representative, Sirak Bahlbi said "The youth came together and tried to address the terrible circumstances that our people are all currently facing and discussed how to tackle them, and we have all agreed that the people of the Horn of Africa should come together and make the their voice heard and today is the result of the decision and this peaceful demonstration should be the first step to our goal and if we work tirelessly and work together nothing would be able to stop our will of reaching our goals."
