i don't think people should compare covers and original versions.
in general, i think comparing one thing to the other and saying "this one is better" or "this one is worse" is rather fruitless.
but especially with something like this, one of them is of montreal, and one is david bowie. they're both great, can we keep it that way?

I agree that it's not better than Bowie, But they're not aiming to be better than Bowie. If you even knew how innovative this band is, you wouldn't have called them outcast socially delinquent kids that no one likes. Of Montreal is becoming one of my favorite NEW bands, but my FAVORITES will stay with Bowie, Stones, Beatles, and Queen.

Guess I just don't understand. Over 20 years of being an individual has kept me from blending with the poser crowd. Darn. Since I don't bleed art, love apple products, and follow bands on myspace in a cultish way I must be a moron. Innovation is based on perspective. Queen, Velvet Underground, NIN, TMBG, Weird Al those are original innovative bands in their own way.
You can't call this innovative, it's the same thing The Cure did decades ago.

They aren't like the cure at all. Just because they may have covered the same song, calling Of Montreal unoriginal is very crude and uncalled for. And no, you aren't a moron for not liking the song, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion. I'm just saying that this band is ahead of it's time and does not in any way follow anything "mainstream". You shouldn't comment on this page and call this band trash judging from a Bowie cover.

2. It's a decent cover, and at times he/they get close to replicating some Bowie magic. Seriously though, I would suggest that they polish up the song if they ever perform it for anything other than an off the cuff AOL session.

Definately the one of the most innovative bands of today. Doing something that none of the generic bullshit bands of today do. A new different sound that I haven't heard before. Their live concerts aren't really concerts but actually more like a live broadway production. Something that can't be said for any other band of today. Learn more about them before you call them trash.

You know what's funny! I have been to their concert no thanks to a friend. It was horrible. To call it broadway is saying brilliant works like Rent and Avenue Q are trash. Those shows are innovative and unique. This is the bullshit, made to put next to an iPod in its purest happy rainbow. They just make money off your need for artsy BS. Bet you think sitting in a starbucks with your macbook for hours is a "fun thing to do". I agree, music today sucks... but this is also music today.

I run windows thank you very much. I don't go to starbucks. I love rent. My point is, they aren't doing what everyone else is. I may have gone overboard with the broadway statement, but they do more than just play. And to say that this is "today's music" is a lie. Different than what other bands are doing. I have my opinion, you have yours, and obviously neither of us are going to change each other's.

Do you honestly have nothing better to do than go around posting negative comments on all of the Of Montreal videos? If you really hate them so much, why are you wasting so much time? I can assure you that you're not going to change anyone's mind about liking the band through a youtube post.
