also moe. has been pretty stagnant recently, their new album wasn't nearly as good as the one umph put out, plus i've seen both bands in the last few months and umph blew moe. outta the water. i agree that once moe. goes on haiatus umph is gonna blow past em, unless moe. practices like madmen while on haiatus. it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out

i agree. moe.'s last studio album not so great. they say it's the first album they made with entirely new material. in other words, most the songs on their previous albums they had been playing for months or years live. I saw them twice this summer and haven't heard them play anything from Sticks. It sure feels like a farewell tour cus their digging deep in their catalog every show...

i agree, moe. and umph. are two amazing bands and i love seeing concerts by each of them, to me its hard to say who i like better but both of them have great music and will continue to see them for years to come

yea. moe. really was my first favorite but UM is so dynamic; no one jams harder and jake is an absolute beast. Not that I haven't loved Umphs for a while now, but for me, right now, they are definitely my number one. moe.down was kinda shitty in my opinion. A lot of the songs got lost in non-directional jams and the band just seemed kind of bored. It was still quality moe., but having been to about 15 shows now i could tell that they have played better. oh well. Umphs wins; 1 to nothing....

How bout this...they are all great! They are different, so you cant say "x" is better than "y" because it all comes down to personal preference.

yall are both so right about that. umphreys is currently my favorite band out there but it really is all about personal preference and just enjoying the music at hand. i cant stand when people argue about which band is better because they are all different and great in their own way.

I know what you mean man. But unfortunately, a lot of people will just look at the scene and lump them altogether even if they have completely different sounds and call them related. Phish, UM, the Dead, moe., Bisco, SCI, STS9, YMSB, all those bands have completely different sounds and styles but they are all joined together by sharing more or less the same fan base. I always found that to be one of the most beautiful things about the jam scene.

I think that umphrey's are extremely talented because just to go up on stage and figure out what sounds good with whatever else another member is playing takes a rediculous amount of musical knowledge, and im not sayin that all memorized stuff is bad, its just that the Jonas Brothers and all those other "popular" bands just arent talented enough to jam, and thats why i like jam bands. U gotta be really good to sound good
