man, they have poor cockpit procedures south of the border. notice how many people hand their hands on the throttle during the climbout? none. us carriers have both pilots holding the throttles to prevent an accidental power reduction. another reason i'm never flying on any airline but european or american.

Hummm? Didn't know that one. And it seems that, based on several videos here in You Tube, neither several European NOR American carries. I know this: professional crews like this one make my flight safe while American chauvinist not flying in these Latin-American carries make my flight enjoyable. By the way: check out the safety index of several US carriers: you may want to start considering the bus.

This "jon" Birge is an asshole and a racist with some narcistic tendencies. Just take a look at his idiotic blog on his profile. Everything is easy to excuse as defective, bad, or just not right if it comes right out of the south of the United States, but hell no he wouldn't dare say anything about UK safety protocol. Just hope and pray this "Jon" is not flying the airline I use in JFK cause I will protest. Nice video Pancuse, sorry for my anger towards this moron Jon.

i'm not sure what i've ever said that is racist, anywhere. suggesting a country doesn't have good safety standards isn't racist. lots of great things comes from all over the world. aviation was invented by the europeans and americans, and they not surprisingly tend to do it better. having a head start and a lot of money helps. but please do take a look at my idiotic blog!

it turns out i was wrong; the captain is supposed to take his hands off the throttle after V1 is reached (the speed after which you can't abort a takeoff) not into the climb, as i'd stated. i think it has something to do with autothrottle equiped airplanes (which they all are nowadays) though maybe i was wrong that they ever "guarded" the throttle during climbout. i was just told this by an old flight instructor of mine. so, mea culpa.

Yes, on the small props (Cessna's, etc.) I remember holding the throttles because it may fall out on climb. At the airlines, equipment with autothrottles don't need a hand on them during climb. As a matter of fact, it can be a little "daunting" when the autothrottles are inop, or when the CA flies an approach without them, especially if you've been spoiled using them for such a long time. Gurading the throttles is normally associated with small aviation airplanes.
Cheers!

It's still better than having eight hands on the throttle for crashing the plane against the biggest building of the city. ;)
