Bubblegum classics such as this, and most pop songs from the late 60s and early 70s, have very well defined melody structures and hooks. These elements are grossly lacking in today's pop. Personally, I think tunes from this era have aged well. I wonder if people will fondly reminisce over the likes of Madonna, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dog, and Vanilla Ice 40 years from now the way we reminisce over the bubblegum era?

Snoop Dog and Vanilla Ice are already forgotten. Madonna and Mariah Carey don't have wide appeal. They each have a loyal following just big enough to them afloat. Every time they release something, they do it through MTV, their life-line. Madonna is strictly a product of MTV. She wouldn't have made it and couldn't survive without it. Her music will be forgotten as soon as she retires. She knows that. That's why she's still performing at almost age 50.

RON DANTE rules and yes, 8th grade memories. i ended up doing radio for 29 years and now have an oldies/classic rock band. i would love to do this, WILL YOU BE STAYING AFTER SUNDAY by Peppermint Rainbow, some WHITE PLAINS and EDISON LIGHTHOUSE too. my band mates probably wouldn't go for it.
