diPaolo's voice in this clip is much more resonant than MINGO (where's teh Do?)'s. He also has a better vocal range. He can access the top with relative ease while MINGO would sound pushed and strangled. Big difference! Get a new pair of ears!

The young tenor is already a world-class Duke of Mantua, judging from this clip, but Pavarotti's comments are helpful. The top note gave him a little trouble but it is almost there and would come with a little more experience.

You can never tell how resonant a voice is from a recording like this. And I can't believe you could think he has a better vocal range from this short clip. di Paolo...relative ease? It's obvious he's not singing his high notes well when he's cracking up there. The cracks are almost predictable considering how he visibly grabs the tone with his larynx and how he stiffens his body.
As for Domingo, I hope you've heard him live. His voice is plenty resonant and his high notes are wonderful!

ah-Of course I have seen him live many times. And I was one of the many people who walked out on him as his singing was despicable. He sounds hooted, throaty, and pushed. He's the King of Transposed Roles, and Cracked or Flat notes. Who are you kidding, unless you're deaf.

yeah, he's deaf, I'm deaf, most of the opera world is completely deaf. I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of Domingo, but you must be insane to even compare Di Paulo to him.

Actually, it was after he made a demo tape demonstrating the song the recording company wanted Pavarotti to sing. Upon hearing the tape, Pavarotti then asked "Why not use him?"
