Are you daft? Emo stemmed from hardcore, when they were tired of singing about politics and social change. It was a movement, and the music has changed dramatically, but, to group Sunny Day with modern "emo" bands is silly. They were talented, had great structure and energy to their music. They're not some Vagrant band...

Even though, technically, Sunny Day Real Estate is a "real" emo band. It brings to mind artists like Rites Of Spring, Policy of Three, Embrace and even later incarnations of "emo" like Portraits of Past, they all despised being called emo.

Well, first of all, I don't recognize that attribution. I've never recognized "emo" as a genre of music. I always thought it was the most retarded term ever. I know there is this generic commonplace that every band that gets labeled with that term hates it. They feel scandalized by it.

More people should know how amazing this band is. A local bar, recently installed one of those internet juke boxes and well eventually I was like, they need to hear some Sunny Day Real Estate so I played "Seven" and told everyone this is probably the best song ever.
Anyhow this band is epic. Before this band all I would listen to was pretty much straight punk (and Tom Petty ha) then in 2000. I heard Diary. It totally opened my mind. Foreshadowed the whole indie thing I do now.
