It's a common view. It's also fucking wrong. I grew up in Coventry and Birmingham. If you think British crime is all cute and so on then your lifespan will drop massively if you ever visit these places. A few hundred feet from my friend's house, a prostitute was stabbed in the vagina with a machete, because she was pregnant.

In all fairness to our mutual yet ironically named acquaintance 'IHaveTheQi' (quite appropriate that he put the I and the Q the wrong way around) we do indeed have very dangerous gang culture here on the streets of the UK. Just the other day as I was walking into Marks and Sparks to purchase a new pair of gloves for the winter, a gang of youths pushed past me in the queue to buy some slippers and didn't even apologise. I could have fallen over! Make no mistake, the UK is a dangerous place

A pretty brutal murder happened just up the road from where I live.
I live in one of the safest cities in Canada.
I still walk home at night by myself because it was an isolated incident. It didn't have anything to do with me. The murder knew the victim....
I'm not saying that the places you lived do not have crime, just that one gruesome example doesn't prove that it's as dangerous as the major cites in the USA.
