She sits in the throne of fellow Black actors who became the 1st oscar winners: Sidney Poitier (Best Actor), Louis Gossett Jr. (Best Supporting Actor), and Hattie McDaniel (Best Supporting actress and first black oscar winner.)

I'm all for historic moments, but the acceptance speech was better than the movie. Angela Basset turned down the role and for good reason. I respect Angela more for rejecting this role than I respect Halle's oscar win. Basset may not have an Oscar, but she definitely has more class and dignity than Halle Berry.
