alot of people say fidm is a joke and theres like a million girls there that want to be like LC and whitney, they dont realize how much work it is. i'm considering fidm after i graduate along with parsons and fit. everything you say is absolutely true, my grandma was a fashion designer and she always told me since i was little that i need to be dedicated and never let myself give up so kudo's to you and congrats on all your success in school the best of luck to you!

I just wanted to say that I really think they're trying to improve on that 80% dropout in the fashion design major.
I was lucky enough to go talk to an advisor in person BEFORE I applied, & he really wanted to make sure I knew what fashion design was and knew all the went into it. He even tried to convince me to major in product development, but I assured him I knew what the major included, because I already design & make clothing.

they have cracked down and made it harder.

This video was very helpful! Im a fashion merchandising student at a University right now and am very passionate about designing. I am in the process of applying to FIDM right now. i know that it takes more work than anyone could ever imagine because I have been around the fashion and television indistries my entire life, but your video really helped make me less nervous about my application. I know that they will see my passion and my potential and I hope to see you and your work at FIDM soon!

Hi. I have an MBA but I'd like to use my creative brain! I'd like to go back to school at FIDM or Parsons to work as a fashion designer or in product development. I was wondering if there are many adult students in the classes you attended and would I look out of place? My kids are your age, 20 and 23 so that gives you an idea. The only thing I have going for me is I'm used to working hard. Thanks. And congrats on your success.

okay so, i'm debating fidm right now, because i'm really passionate about theatre costuming, and it says that costuming is an advanced major or something, so what does that mean? does that mean i have to do fashion design first? i'm just confused, i don't know if you'd know this answer or not, but i figured i'd ask...

Bravo! U are a success story! Im really passionate about fashion design and im actually in the process of completing my application and my portfolio. I hope i get in, but deep inside i know i will! Haha... The only thing that terrifies me is being away from home, and most importantly not knowing how to sew!!! If you dont mind me asking, but is this a must for a student to know how to sew to get into the school?!? Please answer my question! And once again congratulations!

It was HARD HARD HARD, but I am "passionate" about it. I graduated CUM LAUDE in 2005. And after you graduate YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! I have found that about 75% of the leads at their career center were DEAD ENDS-NO RESPONSE YAY OR NAY or EXPIRED. (more 2 come)

thank you so much for the advice. i have been very interested in fashion design since i was tiny. its very sad that fashion design is a fad. ive been working and sewing since i could remember. i was very hesitant to accept the offer to go to fidm because i didnt want to be labeled a lauren conrad wanna-be but, i am going to work my butt off. i defently look up to you.
