Flat Tax vs. National Sales Tax

Uploaded by: afq2007
Video Description:
This Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation brief video explains how the current tax system is deeply flawed and argues that either the flat tax or the national sales tax (sometimes known as the Fair Tax) would be a substantial improvement over the current internal revenue code. However, the video warns that a sales tax should only be adopted if the Constitution is amended to prevent politicians from imposing both an income tax and sales tax, similar to what happened in Europe. Ford and GM don't ... ( 6 months ago by MarkDouglasC)
Ford and GM don't pay corp taxes NOW -- so how the fuck can they save them, when you morons take them away. You idiots are saying GM and FORDS prices will fall, when they dont pay corp taxes. Idiot -- they ALREADY dont pay corp taxes.
And unless ANY corporation has 75% profit margin, they can't drop prices 30% due to corporate income taxes being removed.
Why don't you find me any corporation with a 75% profit margin. Cause THATS the corp that could actually have a huge savings.
Let's take a 23% ... ( 6 months ago by kmarinas86)
Let's take a 23% tax on revenue (or value added) minus what is spent in payroll.
A teenage household baby sitter would have revenue=payroll, so 23%(revenue-payroll): no tax.
Any money that does not go to your payroll goes to somewhere else. We could call this plan a 23% outsourcing tax or a 23% income tax credit.
As an American I ... ( 6 months ago by kmarinas86)
As an American I understand that our payroll represents our blood, sweat, and tears. If our income was deductible from the sales tax base, a 180 degree change would result. No longer would our domestic incomes be stifled, but rather, they would be encouraged.
That 23% fair tax ... ( 5 months ago by newjerseybt)
That 23% fair tax rate is assuming 100% compliance. If goods are purchased at the wholesale level taxes may not be collected. Evasion means a much much higher tax rate. Imagine buying your first home and finding that the original 23% will not support the system and your tax is now 40% on a $500,000 home.
Flat tax: Didn't we once have a 4% flat tax around 1914? It is amazing how things evolve.

MarkDouglasC is actually Mark Douglas Curran. He lives in Quincy, Illinois. He's a 56 year old convicted child molester. He was caught fondling a 6 year old boy. I know this because I live in Quincy. I thought you all should know. He is not a mentally stable person, as you can probably tell from his comments.
What the "Fair" Tax ... ( 5 months ago by Diskwin)
What the "Fair" Tax aka National Sales Tax-inclusive aka "Nasti" really is is a huge tax cut for the very wealthy and a huge tax raise for the middle class-- got to THE SUPPORTING "FAIR TAX" SITE and look at THEIR OWN "RESEARCH"-- tinyurl dotcomslash 593htl
... or be a sucker and a lemming and fall for the scam Boortz and the gang are pulling.
Dude, you need to ... ( 5 months ago by Diskwin)
Dude, you need to check your tax returns, no one making $60K gross pays $20K in federal taxes, lol.
Effective Federal Tax Rates 2007(as estimated by the Congressional Udget Office), FICA/FT:
1ST Quintile: 5.7%
2nd: 12.3%
3rd: 15.9%
4th: 20%
Top: 26.5%
Top 1% : 30.9%
The "Fair" Tax aka National Sales Tax-inclusive aka "NaSTi" would give ahuge tax cut to the very wealthy while raising the taxes of the middle classes disastrously (yes, even with the proposed "prebate").
Does National Sales ... ( 4 months ago by Jawajoey)
Does National Sales Tax = Fair Tax now? I thought a national sales tax would be akin to state sales tax we have now. If you're taxing everything, you sure as HELL don't need to tax 30%.
Most flat tax plans ... ( 4 months ago by MarkDouglasC)
Most flat tax plans are just covers to ONLY tax labor and earned income. Devil is in the details.
Flat tax on WHAT? They want YOUR tax to be flat, and THEIR tax to be Zero.
They can't just say that, so they say, oh, lets do a flat tax. Flat tax on YOUR income, no tax on theirs.
The flat part is just an excuse, its like a Vegas magic trick. The flat part is the distraction - what they REALLY are doing is hiding the fact, unearned income wont pay ANY tax at all.
From BHI/fairtaxorg ... ( 4 months ago by Diskatop)
From BHI/fairtaxorg:"Households in the lowest income band, with an (AGI) of less than $10,000 annually, would benefit because they would receive the prebate that would more than offset any higher cost of purchasing goods.Households in the top income category, with more than $150,000 in annual income, would also gain as they do not have to pay their highest marginal tax rates. Mid-income category households would lose because the Fair Tax would impose a relatively higher tax rate on them."
the sales tax is ... ( 4 months ago by jaygatsbyhaze)
the sales tax is wrong - that would deminish peoples spending and ruin the economy. It should be a flat tax 15% on any and all income earned.
but if did enact flattax, would that get rid of all the other taxes? (SS tax, state tax, sales tax, etc)
The problem with ... ( 3 months ago by Whoo69)
The problem with the flat tax though is that you have to figure out a fair and efficient rate. If you want to prevent the poor from taxed too highly, you can do a low rate like 10%, but 10% of the wealthiest Americans' income combined would still be far less than needed to fund the federal government.
However, if you want to raise enough revenue, you'd have to do something like a 20 or 30% flat tax, but then that would harm more middle and lower class workers! And a sales tax of 23%??
The question that's ... ( 3 months ago by Whoo69)
The question that's never asked is, "Is it really all that necessary to abolish the income tax?" Or "Is it necessary to cut taxes so much??" I mean, we have some of the lowest personal income taxes in history! The income tax on the wealthy is just 35%! It's less than that for lower-income earners. Isn't that low enough?
We seem to have had a lot of economic growth, and we're doing fine with these tax rates. What's the point in lowering? Will we really gain all that much? $14 Trillion econ
Saying that we tax ... ( 3 months ago by Whoo69)
Saying that we tax people quadrupally is a fallacy. The corporate income tax is based on a COMPANY'S income, not any one person's income. Corporations have limited liability, and thus, the taxation of employees and companies is different. Corporate tax does not affect the income tax of an individual. I don't know why anti-tax folks keep spreading this myth. Have you actually ever gone into a corporation or met an accountant or interviewed an executive about this??
And then the "death ... ( 3 months ago by Whoo69)
And then the "death tax" nonsense. The only people who pay inheritance tax are those who die with property and income over millions of dollars. A middle-income farmer with a family farm is probably never gonna have to pay inheritance tax after he dies. And quite frankly, big deal. He's dead! What does he want with money in the afterlife? Sure, he could pass all that wealth onto his siblings, but quite frankly, I'd rather we not have more rich, spoiled kids in America.

while i do believe that the tax code should be simplified. I would like to know how would you be able to keep up with government spending? With the bush tax cuts and other loopholes and things out their big business who do the large scale investing do not pay a lot of taxes. Besides countrys in Europe and Japan have higher standards of living then the US. when we look at these issue let us not take our eyes off of the real issue at hand.
The government sees ... ( 2 months ago by elektrikcity)
The government sees us all paying taxes and decides to spend exhorbitantly on everything. Before there was the income tax, our country was debt free and even more prosperous than now. no Great depressions, no Freddie-Fannie bailouts that can swallow our country in a black hole, etc.
Flat-tax: You can ... ( 2 months ago by elektrikcity)
Flat-tax: You can provide exemptions for lower income people.
National Sales taxes: you can provide rebates for lower income earners.
What's so hard about all this? It's a no brainer and you're just making simple things sound complicated. There are other alternatives, not just the two above, and I don't see you offering any solutions but only complaints.
Worried about ... ( 2 months ago by elektrikcity)
Worried about government spending, huh? Refuse welfare, don't call 911 when your neighbor's dog gets loose. Donate to the US treasury. Write your congress people, demand them to cease spending. I don't see you offering any solutions.
So i am guessing ... ( 2 months ago by smoothbrother69)
So i am guessing you do not believe that government spending is a problem? Look their are a lot of ways to reduce government spending. you can start by getting rid of corporate welfare (the market should not have the invisible hand of government proping up business). you can also reduced earmarks and then you have to piss somebody off with social security and medicare. that is just for starters.
ps. if you are going to have a converstion with me then do not start attacking me personally.
But who are YOU to ... ( 2 weeks ago by ritwingr)
But who are YOU to determine that. It's a simple question of individual liberty. Should an individual be permitted to give his estate to individuals of his OWN choosing or does the government have the moral right to steal it upon his death?
If you don't favor inherited wealth, by all means don't pass your along to your offspring. Don't try to get the government to steal others' estates, though, in promotion of your view.
